I accidentally dug a hole a bit too close to a large Cordyline and under-mined it. I quickly re-filled the hole and staked the Cordyline (artificially changing the plants leaning angle). After a year I removed the stake and the plant was solid at it's new incline. Maybe you could do this act on purpose to 'save' this Cordyline?
I agree with the guys above, as an extra loads of rich potash, (ash straight from a fire), they love it.
