There is a system called chargeback that may apply to your purchase Chris - worth checking.
  • I'd have thought the quality and warranty of a product was ultimately the manufacturer's responsibility. It seems a bit harsh that they won't honour it - it also seems shortsighted due to the power of the internet, where consumer issues are easily researched. I wouldn't purchase anything from a company I couldn't trust to uphold a warranty.

I hope that you resolve this satisfactorily!
  • apparently Hayter have taken them over the other company has gone bust and hayter have said they wont honour any warrantys i bought it from an independant supplier who they supplied
  • first off i would contact hayter as allen went bust 18 months ago or thereabouts, we actually bought some old stock via auction.
the manufacturers warranty should be for 12 months i assume,if your supplier can give you evidence that the mower was supplied by hayter, they wont have a leg to stand on.
sometimes, unless you buy the "pro" versions of mowers, the makers wont honour warrenties for commercial use,so you are now a "domestic customer", if you get my meaning. try a nice polite letter to hayter, along with any paper trail you can get, mention the "sale of goods act" and "fit for purpose", and a mention that you have spoken to trading standards wouldnt go amiss, but keep it polite...........................................or...................
Go to nearest car shop, get a fibreglass kit,(resin/sheets of fibreglass/jug and a paintbrush, clean deck, apply resin, apply fibre g,apply more resin, more fibre, more resin, maybe 3 layers topped off with a layer of resin and set.

It is worth considering purchasing a new lawn mower from large brands such as Mow Direct, Amazon or Mower Warehouse.

Take this Simplicity Conquest for example. It has been reduced by £800 but not only that, you have complete confidence in purchasing through a major supplier.
