  A pole trimmer would do this job easily but make sure hedge regrows before winter to cover up cuts ie early August. Make sure the thicker stems are cut at right angles.

  Hi chris. In principle mulching mowers are good because they recycle finely chopped grass clippings, helping soil fertility, conserving moisture etc. During droughty summers with short grass they are good to use. Long wet grass can be pretty messy when cut with a mulching mower though. The pro Hondas have an adjustable vent which mulches or collects in the grass box depending on how you want to set it. Haven’t used them though. I use a Masport which has a removable mulching clip, replaced by a grass box when you want to pick up your clippings – great system. Dedicated mulching machines would be better at their job, though without that flexibility. Cylinder mowers without collecting the grass – but maintaining a bowling green sward is not something I do!
