Sub base advice,

Evening,

A client is looking at extending her drive in the front garden. We are looking at concrete under 5m2 with gravel drain central to this.

The other option is 20mm clean limestone compacted at 150mm with 40mm grid reinforcement filled with decorative gravel.

I did think about using type 3 instead of 20mm limestone, but have been told this would suffice. How well it would do is my concern. I don't want to be coming back to rectify this

  • The clean limestone will work you will just need a teram layer below it so that it doesn't mix with the soil. Ideally you would want it to be 200 deep though.

What's more readily available to you? The limestone or type 3? Also what's cheaper?

I know if we need type 3 we cant get it in any loads smaller than 20t.

Type 3 is near impossible unless I spend £95 a bulk bag or 10t loose.

20mm limestone is the same price as type 1 to me. I doubt she is going to go ahead with this now due to it being far more expensive that she expected.
