Stihl, Husqy or other?

I'm considering buying a new hedge trimmer as my HS80 is vry tired. But I've been looking around for an equivalent and I must say paying in excess of £500 really does annoy me. I know Stihl & Husqy are vry good but does anyone use anything different?

  • I couldnt use anything but Stihl, Marc, cheaper stuff might be OK initialy, but probably wont last, whats up with your HS80s ,new blades about £60 or there abouts, or is the engine knackered. must say I have to buy new blades for mine every now and again, as they get hammered.
  • Chaps you are all so right. To be honest I was feeling like a hostage to cash.
PG looking at it from that perspective u r so right, plus I've got a good 2-3weeks worth of hedges so it's a no brainer. The 86 is that the single sided version?
  • i made the move from my hs45? i got the 'r' version. lonng blades.........:) vibes are almost not existent. £445 max inc vat/delivery........ you will get over it when money comes back in over winter (i love hedges ;))

Stihl HS86 is around £445 -£450 from a decent dealer...... this is what I would pay.

The HS86 is IMO worth the money, a faultless machine with low vibrations, good balance and light....... 3 days of hedge cutting and it has paid for itself...... a no brainer for me atleast.
  • Marc just dont run over them in your big vehicle after a few days.............. just found my receipt for repair !!parts £45.00 + labour 1.5 hrs £27 £72 for nownt ! ouch

  • I wouldnt try using any of the cheaper brands - they simply do not last!
We had (startup tool i admit) a Ryobi hedge trimmer. It vibrated too much, didn't cut well, and eventually fell apart after 3 months. Waist of £150. Compare that to 3+ years for £600?

  • Thanks NIc, yeah I've just bought the exact same model, it will used in anger tomorrow as I dropped off my HS80 for repair and it wont be ready, if at all until Monday/Tuesday. Anyway always useful as a back up.
Just in time really as the estimates I put in for hedge work have all come in this week. I shouldn't moan but my diary is now full all the way through to Jan 11.....I'll be the hedge king!!!
