Sorry but its all about me!

Hi there everyoneI am having a great time at the moment as I have recently started a foundation degree in Landscape Design at Cannington College in Bridgwater. Really enjoying the course and have my favourite subjects already, I love hard landscaping and surveying, so practical. However I am a bit stuck at the moment as I need to make a decision about where and with whom to carry out my work placement.I must have completed 30 days by March 2011, but would happily spend much more time to get as much experience as possible.Does anyone have any advice on what would be the best area to carry this out? I have already mentioned the hard landscaping and surveying and how much I enjoy that and am naturally inclined to approach landscapers to see if they will have me. However I thought that maybe a garden centre, national trust or ornamental garden might be more appropriate. Has anyone been in this situation before and had to make this decision or maybe just have any ideas that may help, or even know someone that may be interested in taking on a hard working conscientious voluntary work experience student! Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to some feedbackSarah Buchanan, Somerset

  • I'm sure someone will step in!

Assisting a landscaper is likely to involve heavy work though as they often need staff to cart tonnes of soil and stone about, but best of luck.
  • Having worked in garden centres for many years, I often had staff that were training in landscape design or other disciplines, and were keen to learn while working. - If you want to learn about the materials that go into a garden, and find out all about the people who are likely to be your future customers, i'd suggest that is a good start.

Ahh a fellow Cannington student on LJN, hello and welcome. Well I think it all depends what kind of experiance you want to gain and what you want to do in the long term. If you really are keen and want to get experiance in the landscapeing industry and have some serious fun I would highly recomend you coming to PLANET student career days in March, loads of chances to get an internship in America and they would pay you as well as that is how things work over there. Anyway you will find out more about PLANET this coming week as I am coming i to give Iain a hand telling all your group about PLANET and how great a event it is.
