Quick update

I have found out this afternoon that I have been shortlisted for the participation position I was hoping for. Slightly different to what I was expecting as the role is regional, not local.Interviews are probably my weakest point in trying to get a job as I tense up and find it difficult to relax. For this one I also have to give a ten minute presentation, fortunately on a topic I am very familiar with and passionate about, hopefully this will help to settle me in for the rest of the interview. It is an awesome opportunity so fingers crossed.

  • Well the interview is over and I will hear by tomorrow afternoon the latest.

Just before the interview I got a bit overwhelmed by the fact that I was actually sitting there. There was a number of reasons for this, but the biggest one was realising that they had only shortlisted three people and I was one of them.

Over all it went very well. I do know they were very pleased with a lot of my answers. And at the end one of the interviewers told me not to worry too much about the questions I struggled with as it was obvious the problem wasn't that I couldn't answer the question, but one of cultural differences between a large housing association and a small TMO, plus the use of language in different ways.

They asked how I saw working in partnership with them would work. At the end of my answer I apologised because my experience was one where we perform both functions and did not view them as seperated from each other.

I am really hopeful on this one, and hope it wasn't a matter of having to go through the motions but knowing who they wanted. One of the other candidates is internal, and one of the interviewers said the role was a secondment, realised what he had said and changed it. Either way the interview was a good experience.
  • Sounds like it went very well - Fingers crossed for you.
  • I didn't get the job.

They were very impressed with the interview, unfortunately one person did stand out. However they asked if I would be prepared to do a work placement with them so they can train me up, hone my skills and help polish my interview techniques.

It is a wonderful opportunity. Won't get paid, but will have my expenses covered. So over all very pleased with the outcome
  • As you said - a wonderful opportunity and I am sure it will lead to better and bigger things for you.
  • yes it is, and one I plan to take full advantage off. And as the manager said it would also mean I have a foot in the door if something else comes up.
