Ivy at its best

Just thought that you would like to see a picture of ivy looking fabulous. It is growing on a stone pillar and at this time of year it is just seething with bees, wasps and butterflies. Quite a heavy smell coming off it too! If you ask me, it is ivy doing its absolute best.

  • OH NO, it's everywhere!

I'll be seeing it in my sleep next.

Ivy has always been one of my favourite plants and this is a great example.

I'm going to recommend this to Steve at T S Plants, I know he likes ivy as well, NOT.
  • Great example of ivy there Sarah, ive always liked ivy, its robust and versatile as well as great for wildlife, I think alot of people tend to dislike this plant as it can easily get out of control if not looked after. Like marmite, you either love it or hate it.
  • Hi Jason

    Liked your reply.

Personally I love marmite, but hate ivy.

Only because it has been allowed to get out of control on our Nursery - over 150 trees smothered in it and encroaching on the ground everywhere. I am very sore from ripping the stuff out.

Late night snack of marmite on toast required (and yes I was working today!)

  • Thanks Gary for this tip.

I'm off to Tesco in the morning to buy up their stock of marmite.

Try putting the Marmite on the ivy Tina, my wife likes it, I hate it. I'm sure it'll kill that ivy no probs.

  • Amazing !
  • Its a beautiful plant if you give it a chance
  • Oh, don't worry, I weedkill/nuke/burn/shred it else where when it causes its usual nuisance!

Ivy at its best is on a bonfire!
  • I too hate the stuff... it stinks, gets out of control and is a bit of a lazy planting choice.
  • Hate it with a passion, worse thing for me is when it gets into trees and starts to take over, bloody stuff looks awful almost everywhere it grows :-{
