flyers

how many people spend their time dropping flyers through peoples letter box's? and how much response do you get from them? i did try this when i first started 11 years ago and dropped over 2000 flyers and got 1 call and that was a waste of time, with this weather work has slowed down, i do advertise in the thomson local, my web site, village mag & side of van, what luck do others get from them?

  • I use high quality, full colour, gloss, card flyers from solopress and get approximatley a 3% return. We deliver them from mid march up until mid October, theres no point during the winter as i get less than 0.5% return. The majority of the jobs i get from flyers are small ones, mainly one-off grass cuts, hedges, etc. although i have got a few landscaping jobs in the past. Personally i do think it is worthwile delivering flyers, but not as a main source of advertising. I keep it for when work is slack or we get a cancellation (gives the boys something to do). For it to be profitable you dont want to be paying any more than 2-3 pence per flyer.
  • about 1.5% response for a good leaflet and 0.5% for a bad leaflet design (from experience).

Jobs are typically small one off tidies - and a few fence repairs due to the wind.

I've got about 2k fliers left - and aim to drop them in 200 or so batches between jobs. Once their gone Im not going to bother as Local Mag adverts produce more, higher quality jobs - and £ for £ about 5x more effective. And thats not factoring in my hours hitting the pavement.

I do suppose different approaches work for different people, and areas. Ive found big houses / wealthy areas produce 0% response as everyone targets them and they are usually spoken for by what I must admit, are usually very competent competition.

    • funny - out of thousands delivered now, not seen a single dog in a garden, bus the amount of muck I've stepped in beggars belief.
      • PRO
When I started out I used flyers, but always didn't put them in houses that had poo in their front garden.
        • Im lucky so far... the only customer with a dog so far cleans up, never had to remind! As for leaflet poo... always on the way out, its like it sneaks in underfoot just to make sure I know...
  • may be this is what people use the flyers for, cleaning up that dog poo
  • hi Guys i use laminted leaflets that i drop through the letterbox then pick them up within 38hours this way gives me chance to speak to the client i get on average two jobs per street.

  • If this is what he's doing, I know of a Tree surgeon in North Leeds who did / is doing this on very thick laminated card, inbetween cold calling for work with anyone whos garden has a decent sized tree in it. Im very dubious about the image this may give across, however I suppose it maywell be area and person dependant.

I'd like to know as well Chris - are you doing a Kleeneze type drop - "if you're not interested please put my flyer out so I can collect it"?

    Is that how it works?
