BUSMAN'S HOLIDAY!

I've just returned from a belated weeks holiday in Cornwall and like any self-respecting garden/landscape/exotic plant junkie I've done a few garden visits on my travels.I went to Cornwall 10 years ago on 'hardcore' garden visiting holiday and did most of the famous gardens inc. Trebah, Glendurgan, Heligan, Eden Project etc. and even hopped on a helicopter to The Ilse Of Scilly to see the Abbey Gardens! This year was a bit more casual and the only "big one" I did was Trebah to see the newly discovered "lost" vista. I also visited the Minnack Theatre and was blown away (literally) by the subtropical succulents etc. clinging to this rocky outcrop. What was most impressive about this visit was the following "sub-tropical" gardens and parks created by local authorities and parish councils etc. which were amazing:St. Andrews Street - St. Ives.Subtropical Garden - St. Ives.Morrab Subtropical Gardens - Penzance.King George V Memorial Walk - Hayle. No doubt these lesser known horticultural gems have their equivalents in other towns and cities throughout the country. How about adding to this list with lesser known local authority/private gardens in your area that you know of and that can be visited?

  • Great idea for a thread. Cornwall has plenty - I would also list Fox Rosehill in Falmouth, which once a year sells off the exotic plants at huge discount.

If any of you ever get to Poitiers, the municipal Parc Blossac in the City centre is incredible.

It always surprises me how some of the best parks and gardens are completely free.
  • Off to Abbotsbury later this month, okay it's Dorset, but who cares.

Always wanted to go, now 30 minutes away, no excuse.

Did you see our plants (10 litre Agapanthus in pots) at the Eden Project?
  • Err No!

Almost forgot about this one in Cornwall:

St. Just In Roseland Church. - Massive Trachycarpus and Gunnera in churchyard!

    Pip,

I saw the Fox Rosehill garden whilst in Falmouth - should have visited it I guess.
