I'd definitely go for the standard one...... much more controllable, lighter and just easier to use. I find most of my work is done with the standard cutter........ the pole cutter is rarely used and I managed with out one..... just used a ladder..... for years.
Ive never heard fo that make, I would only buy STIHL long pole hedge cutter, i very rarely use a small one. Stihl is the way to go. Long pole i find i can do small hedges and without the hastle of ladder for medium bushes Anything else will brake or blunt too easy or not be fit for the job.
Difficult, as once you own a long-reach you do find it useful. I don't think you could do a proper job with just the LR though (and it'd be exhausting work), so if it's down to one option then a good standard one and just don't take on hedges where a long one is essential.
I just have the Stihl adjustable head that replaces my strimmer unit. It was only £235 inc VAT, so well worth it.
Like ian said you can do small with a long one but not tall stuff with a short one
I'd never go back to a short one unless I took up fine topiary or did lots of very small hedges. Even if the hedge is only as tall as I am then I find a long handle much quicker and easier to do the tops. I also find I'm neater with it but that might be because I'm better with a long handle now than I was when I was using a shorter one.
I must be a complete wuss.... :-)
One of the jobs today was a privet 30 metres long, 3 high and 3 wide. Obviously you need the long-reach for the top (all from one side) but I wouldn't have the strength to do the side with it. I wouldn't get the same finish either.
Not such an issue with Pellenc, of course, as most of the weight is on your back, not at arm's length.

Rather use ladders and my standard one than a pole one. The pole one I used was a Tanaka.
Paul you should try a long reach strapped on to a strimmer harness, takes so much of the effort out of it ;)
I have the pellenc trimmer with 75cm blades and the telescopic trimmer. I ran the ordinary trimmer for a number of years before buying the telescopic. I would go with the standard trimmer if i could only have one. Super light (3kg) and can easily be held out at full stretch with little fatigue. Get the longest blades (75cm i think) and you can reach a fair distance.
