Work boots

Hello folks, I'm after recommendations for comfortable safety boots. I suffer from Policeman's heel or Plantar Fasciitis and after a long days mowing my feet are suffering, especially the next morning. Just wondering if anyone else has the same issue and have found a solution. I've tried different insoles and boots, all to no avail so far. I'll save my tennis/golfers elbow woes for another day😂

I use to suffer from that. I got it when I use to run a lot. I swaped the running for a bicycle, I stopped wearing steel midsole boots for a while, I always wear orthopaedic insoles now. I got one of those spikey massage balls and used it every morning and every night. I haven't had any problems with it for over ten years.

    • Thanks HB, I'll have a look for better quality insoles and try the massage ball.

I suffered with plantar for a while , The best inner soles i found were from a bsiness called ''shuropody'' bought off the shelf i didn't bother with a consultation but fortunately the shop is local to me , I could wear them in every pair of shoes , They helped but r'ealised on my feet all day i needed a solid work boot with arch support , obviously you cant investigate every work boot but settled on Doc Marten industrial workboots , not to be confused with the air cushion soled ones , the industrial ones have a different safety solid moulded sole and toe cap and i believe follow the principle of the original purpose of the Doc Marten to relieve foot problems .

I have a pair Four years old they brought me relief and the plantar went away but can reoccur temporarily if i wear trainers or normal shoes but another brand i find helps and they are very cheap work boots are earthworks from a budget footwear supplier , they have retail outlets and also online . Shoe zone .

These boots i find nice and light but with all the safety features and most importaint a good solid sole offering arch support , never had a pair fall apart and at around £22 a bargain , I replace every six months buying two pairs at a time , i even have a pair for best , i know sad but whatever works , i remember days i couldn't walk when the plantar got so bad .

Yes the tennis elbow i know what you mean lol , unfortunately now its the back and the knees too , i sometimes ask myself why i put myself through it .

        • Hi John,

Iv suffered with my back since my twenties. I recently went back playing a team sport , I know why would you do that?, and as part of the lockdown they decided to give an online core and mobility class twice a week ,to keep everyone involved....if you can find one  online or at a gym, then get on it. You will not regret it. It basically just uses everything from  simple light stretching exercises to 30 seconds of crunches etc.. after a sceptical start, I gotta say I'm hooked on it.made a huge difference to my back..... that an ice any evening where I feel strain.... neck, lower back etc...... Once you feel tight in an area get the ice on it morning and evening..20 mins a pop..

The knees... not a lot for that...😄...

Thanks Paul  will check this out , I agree stretching the right way makes a difference after doing some basic physiotherapy stretches .

That tightness is a worry . I think when working the adrenalin kicks in and enjoying the work i dont feel a thing but afterwards when i get home everything starts to ache .

            ageig and repetive strain .

They used to say rest your back but now they say keep active if you can ,

        • Thanks for that John, we’ve got a Shuropody close by so I’ll pay them a visit. I had a quick look online at the DMs but there are so many different work boots they offer I couldn’t be sure which ones you were recommending.
We must be of a similar vintage by the sound of are matching ailments but if I can sort my feet out, the rest I can put up with now. Cheers
          Will.

  • Hi, best boots I ever had were DeWalt challenger goretex. Builders merchant near me used to do them for about £50 but now most places are £90 ish. I do get aching shins/ feet after a long day mowing, last year I had some DM boots which were not too bad. 2 weeks ago I bought some Screwfix site safety trainers and my shins ached like crazy after a days mowing. I'll hope they wear in but so far not too good. I'm probably going to have to bite the bullet and buy some more of the dewalts. I'm limited to choice as I never buy boots with lace hooks- the thought of one lace catching on the other boots lace hook whilst up a ladder wielding a hedge cutter makes me shudder!

    • Thanks Mjc

im currently using Dewalt craftsman but not at all comfortable, I'll check out the challenger model. I guess the thing is everyone's feet are different and a boot that works for one person isn't going to work for another. The problem being that I'll be long gone before I've time to try out all the options out there. 😂

thanks for the tip though, il see if I can find a pair to try on.

  • Challengers were easily the best but two problems.  The price has really increased & a lot of people say that they aren't as good as they were.  I switched to Grisport & I like them.  A bit of googling will reveal that they are supplied by companies like Volvo.  £55

Hi Will Doc Marten do safety boots which are probably more suited to technicians / electricians etc .

The industrial boot is more suitable for outdoor construction they have the welded solid sole I got mine from the Doc Marten retail outlet in Leeds in 2016 , I feel its essential to try boots on before purchase when you have foot problems , I dont know about you but bad fitting shoes irritate the life out of me .

I didn't realise the boots would last so long , they have never lost their integrity . They cost over £100 and this was the sale price but worth every penny .

One negative is they are heavy to drive in , virtually impossible to drive a small car in , easier with a van but best to have something more suitable for this and obviously it  becomes a pain to keep swapping boots , although extremely comfortable to work in and they sorted the plantar which was bad at the time ..
