Which winch?

Dear allI have been given the go ahead to fell a small woodland, circa 500 trees and I might need to buy a winch in case of hung up trees. The trees were probably a Xmas tree plantation and are quite tall (50 ft) but no bigger than about 12inches diameter.I was looking at Tirfors but have no idea which one or what load capacity I might need. Can anyone help?Obviously I have my CS30/31 tickets and am reasonably competent with a chainsaw. Many thanksNick

Would the t508 also be man enough for stump removal? Would you consider buying second hand?

    Many thanks

Many thanks Paul, I will keep my eyes peeled for a second hand 516.

No, get the T 516 if you want to shift stumps. The T508 will be constantly snaping the shear pin, ok for hang ups and small shrubs but no good for bigger stuff.

Both my two tirfiors are second hand, they are straightforward tools and are a safe buy used just keep them oiled,  you can down load the users manuals online as PDF. Personally Ive always bought a new max flex rope and spare shear pins for mine but otherwise they have been fine.

  • Hi

I've got a job coming up removing quite a bit of privet and berberis hedging with no access for a digger and was considering buying a winch but have no trees or similar to pull against, any ideas of what i could use?

    Thanks

    Just have one quick question...

What tonne rating should I look for when purchasing straps and shackles etc with this winch which is rated at 3t and the supplied cable is rated at 8t. My guess is 8t but if different I would love to know why!

    Many thanks once again
