  • try www.frjonesandson.co.uk

    ive been looking at stihl
  • HS 86T (40" cut, 22.7cc) £511.75 £329.41 £378.82
  • I have a couple of the Stihl HS81R 30" Double Edged Hedge Trimmers and paid £299 Incl. VAT each. Can't fault them.

Previously used the Kawasaki KHS750B (29") single blade trimmer which was very good until I dropped it from a great height! :-(
  • Hi Martin

As you are aware Stihl products have a very good second hand value. Therefor against Matika I would pay the extra £80 and get it back when you sell a Stihl on.
The other thing I would say and I have Pro Gard to thank. Consider purchasing a 40" blade. Pro Gard introduced me to an Echo 40" blade which is a really great tool. The only problem and you have probably read it from Pro Gards post, is the cost of Echo spares.

I came by my Echo very cheaply so I can not complain if I need to fork out at some stage for expensive spares
    • Cheers everyone

Thanks for the heads up on matika parts I will stay clear also the echo I've had one before sound machine but having to wait on the parts is a nighmare.

I will look into stihl 40" and the other make that was mentioned.

Once again ta for the help

Kawasak KHS750A single sided hedgetrimmer has done me for 8 years with the minimal of fuss. Should cost less than £300 incl VAT.
  • I have the Stihl 40" trimmer great piec of kit. I get through hedges so much quicker now! I only used to have a long reach with a 30" head!
    • Lol yeah ment makita but I think you knew that. I type to quick and don't check what I've written.

I have a couple of double siders just wanted a light easy to use set for general everyday use.

Dont you mean Makita? Why dont you go for double bladed they are better and quicker and dont wear out as fast...go for a Stihl one
  • Ditto i find mine makes me nearly twice as fast and I dont use a deflector!

I'm with Pro Guard on this one. Single sided machines are twice as fast & tidy if used correctly, on the right type of hedge. It's horses for courses but if I had a nice conifer hedge to cut I would use a single sided trimmer every time.

My neighbour has a conifer hedge that goes on for miles, I've been cutting it for years & it's much quicker now with a single sided machine than when I used to cut with a double blade, no question at all.

    Pro Gard said:
Disagree, double sided machines are heavier and generally have less reach. Further you cant fit a cutting deflector.

I would happily challenge anyone to cut faster and cleaner than a single sider with deflector. Impossible with a double sided machine.

  • Very true single sided trimmers are quicker and better finish. I personally normally prefer to cut from left to right and therefore have a bit more choice / flexibility with the double sided trimmers.
