  • Just write down the miles you travel for business. Each trip make a note in a log book. That way all of your business mileage is recorded seperately. I keep my fuel receipts as back-up.
  • My van only gets used for business so keeps it easy ;-)
  • i now have
    1. jeep , i use for quotes and long journeys and towing.
    2. van for landscaping , quotes maybe and mowing.

both are solely used for work basically - i have no life ;-/

so i can do what stu says? i did 20,000 last year , have all receipts and shell/card email receipts for all.

i also have every service, repair, mot and parts receipts.

both are used for work so what can i legally claim ? obviously i go to the shop/pub once a month! so... i dont expect to get 2 whole vehicles paid for from expenses anyway..................???

There are 2 ways in which you can claim motoing expenses for your business

    1) This is to keep a track of your BUSINESS miles and the tax man will accept payment of (I think) 40p per mile for the first 10,000 then 20p after.
How ever, this money is for all the maintenance, fuel, oil, tax etc. etc.

    2) Is to keep ALL motoring receipts - this way ALL expenditure for motoring is for the business.

You can not do both, a mixture of one and the other.........

HOW EVER, if you have a van and use it for work, or a car, ONLY; then claim on option 2. If you have a private car too, then you can claim option 1 on that vehicle - for instance, you may use the car to visit customers for payment or visit for viewing etc.
