Well it had to happen.......

Can't believe I just had an email advertising Christmas Dinners/Celebrations from a Best Western Hotel local to us !

August 10th, its Summer, I've not yet had my holiday and some marketing person has probably been slaving away for the past couple of weeks putting together Christmas packages

How long before the first TV advert ?

OMG !

I was in Morrisons this afternoon and they were advertising their Xmas savings stamps over the instore radio thing.

One of the shelve stackers was telling me that all of the Xmas stuff would be out in the wines and spirits section by the end of the month.

(I must admit that I'm planning on doing my Christmas present shopping next month while I'm feeling flush, the shops are still doing sales and there's no problems getting what I want to buy)

Don't get me wrong, I can see why its happening and was said tongue in cheek. We even had a meeting 2 weeks ago about winter gritting schedules and costs with one of our Managing Agents.

It's just a rude awakening in the middle of summer...;-)

Let me flip that around Gary...

I've spent the last couple of weeks considering ways to make our winter months more profitable.

Another thought I've been mulling over is; I wonder how the 2012 Olympics is going to affect our business and is there any opportunties to be had ?

As business people, we have to think ahead to the next season/year all the time. Maybe, with the Christmas season being so crucial to the hospitality trade, we should have some empathy with their situation.

Devils advocate and all that .....

A bit of useless information :

Did you know the gritting "season" effectively starts on 1st October and ends 30th April !
