Website hosting

HiI joined up to LJN last June, but this is my first post.I qualified as a garden designer last summer, and I am now looking to build my website. I am having trouble with my ISP, Virgin, as I have been unable to upload to my personal web pages (PWP). I am therefore thinking about contracting a domain name from a web-hosting company and I have read about some that advertise free hosting, but I do not know if they are any good (or what the catch is). I have a website nearly ready to go, so I do not need anyone to create it for me, just the hosting.I wonder if anyone on here could recommend a web hosting company that is Apple Mac friendly?Rob

    Hi Rob,

    I can recommend our provider: http://www.tsohost.co.uk/

    Our site is created on a Mac, but to be honest that shouldn't make any difference - all you'll need is some FTP software to upload your site.

    Your website looks really good, can I ask which option you use to host your site, is it the £14.99/year and were there any other set-up costs?

    We have the standard Linux hosting package, which is £35, as I wanted to host 3 or 4 separate domains. Domain transfer was free. There were no other set up costs.

    Included in the package is the capability to host a Wordpress blog, which I have found to be a very powerful publishing platform. I will be moving the entire site to be Wordpress based over the next couple of months - I like a challenge!!

    Thanks for that. So you already had a domain name somewhere else before that? I will need to get one sorted as well, do you think that TSOHOST will do that too?

    Yes - most, if not all, hosting companies offer domain name registration services.

    Apple Mac - will make no difference. It's the software that does all the work not the PC/Mac

    Free hosting - will be the biggest mistake that you can make

    Tech support - at sometime you will need tech support, so make this one of your priorities when looking at hosting companies
