I bought some ex navy goretex waterproofs theres a few sellers on ebay there cheap but good quality. I wash them when they get dirty with nikwax or similar.
The flexothane stuff isn't really nice for jackets.
For what it's worth, try Thistle Garments, Cumbernauld. They make goretex clothing in-house and have some good stuff. They also do clearances of surplus jackets, all new, at good prices. I use them, they are totally waterproof (monsoon-stuff) and not sweaty.
Thanks guys, seems goretex waterproofs are the way forward for us. Will check out these sites and get ordering, the boys will be pleased, rain forecast this week :(
I have new American army surplus gortex trousers, they have doublw layer knee and bum and have been great cost about 30 quid..I have a Flexothene jacket that has done stirling service and would buy their kit again but as said doesn't breath.
Cheers
Mark
Price doesn't always mean good, I bought a Blaklader waterproof jacket, it is good, very tough material but the arms detach with zips and where the zips ends meet under the arms the water gets in and i end up wet on my sides.. Not good.
It cost 85 quid.
Thanks Andrew and Mark. Have ordered some now, but has been pouring down all day so no doubt I will get stick from the lads when they get back as wearing holey waterproofs at the moment! Cheers :)
