Water features?

I'm working on a garden in Edinburgh, the client is looking for some sort of moving water to be included. It's a front garden on a slight slope so it wouldn't be a pond, but more likely one of these self contained ones. I've used the stainless steel balls before which work well, but was wondering if anyone had used anything else (stone, glass, slate) that might fit the bill?

The garden has an amazing view over Edinburgh, and is on a quiet street so we're going to include a wee seat, and the gentle sound of water nearby is what we're looking for.

  • How about a drilled monolith - have a look at www.stoneworlddirect.co.uk
  • i've seen these copper water features at several of the shows, - they might work well http://www.copperwaterballs.co.uk/
  • I think Colin means one of these. Also have a look at Tills Innovations website , they've helped me construction both my water features for my chelsea garden and my hampton court garden. Mikes very approachable and will be willing to help.
  • Hi Tracy

Quite a few options online for the self contained ones.

I've recently put in a cascade feature which I built with sandstone walls, tier panels on the wall with the cascade coming through and remote control lights. Pics on my profile and website if your interested. Really easy to do and a bit diff from off the shelf.

Alt - CED cumbernauld will drill any piece of rock in their yard for you, they also do some stone balls which are quite nice.
  • Hi there, thanks all for the great advice. I'm loving the copper ball ones and there is some great stuff on the Tills website. Ian, saw your show garden at Chelsea in 2006, loved it - right up my street.

Kirsty, heading to CED tomorrow by coincidence so will have a look at their rock/large stones, they usually have some nice stuff there.

Have sent info on to client, see which appeals to her - am liking the idea of a bespoke one, we'll see how far her budget will stretch! Will let you know how I get on.
