Back on the 5th of March I posted a summary of Marshalls' full year results for 2009. I speculated that things might be looking brighter for the UK's second largest hard landscape material supplier - it turned out to be a prophetic statement as later that day the stockmarket got a taste for Marshalls' stock. Even today, the Marshalls (MSLH) share price rose 18.65%. It is refreshing to see this movement; not because I have any Marshalls shares but because it could be a sign - especially with the Olympic build-up for 2012 - that hard landscaping might be beginning to pick up. One can still not rule out a double-dip recession because someone, somewhere, must pay back all of the money the government has pumped in to shore up the economy but it's certainly looking good for the short to medium term. If hard landscaping goes on a run then all the peripheral services, as well as planting and turfing, will be pulled up with it. Any thoughts...are your orders up, is the phone ringing and are you more confident?

  • I've not seen any dip in bookings. I've had one customer cancel further costings/design due to redundancy but they were not booked in. I've filled up all space until end of May. I think more people are improving what they've got instead of moving, still getting a few new builds but probably not so many.
  • it has gone very quiet here in shropshire ,but we will soon see after the bank holiday / april if the phone starts ringing. things in stoke on trent seem to be very depressing.
