I've no evidence to back this up Martin but my instinct is that someone is trying to mislead you.
I see no reason why Google would want to penalise itself in this way, even if they do own Youtube.
Can you ask your Yell rep for some evidence of his her claim?
I will try to phone her back later on.
A Yellow Page rep who knows even less than her counterparts, now there's a shock! Not! Tell her you'll report her to the advertising standards body, unless she gives you a FREE full page ad for life in every county you require...
I have heard this about videos several times in the last few weeks. I have heard this from people who understand these sorts of things, and certainly not from a Yellow Pages rep. Wouldnt believe anything from a Yellow Pages rep
The factors determining page position on any search are far to complex to explain here but have nothing to do with the websites content.
So we've now got rid of the "onpage" element then? I think not...
I've highlighted it before, but take some time to go through Google's own SEO Starter Guide.
Richard , you are a star!... very good idea.
One of the things that coogle like to see - to rank you higher
Is how long does visitors stay on your page... and movies can help doing so.
As people say, there are hundreds of parameters.
I can also imagine that if google see that your videos are so popular about a keyword- so it may help a little bit- but I am not sure about that...
What I can tell you - is If you make a video and place it in many places in the Youtube version
More and more people will see it and it will get popular on its own on you tube, google and can add some traffic to your site...
I had many customers in the past that liked my products on youtube and contacted me.
My videos were from when I just moved to the UK ( most) and my |English was bad... the video is very basic and simple... yet I think it is about 100,000 being watched...
and FREE
So- good idea, to add in any case... It also "break the ice" between you and potential customers- if people can see you... what you are doing. For sure.. I would create few ... and optimize by giving it the right name, key word etc
Yes, I'm also intrigued as to how Roy has come to this conclusion. I was obviously under the completely false assumption that 'content is king' as far as webistes are concerned!
