For the areas which get the most wear we screw aluminium chequer plate into the ply floors
I had the ply floor, it lasted 3 years before it really was composting itself - I invested in the Phenolic floor in Dec 2020 - it looks as if I could, if I could be bothered, get it looking near enough as good as new a year later.
Indeed, the floor in the old van came with the Phenolic already at 3 years old, and i have used it for 9 years and although it didn't look great anymore, it's still perfectly serviceable after all these years!
The heavy duty hard plastic floor liners available for these might be worth considering
Iv'e not seen any advertised, got a link please?
transit custom load liner | eBay
Yeh thats whats in it already, i would'nt call it heavy duty, not for our trade anyway.
Maybe there are thicker stronger plastic ones out there, very hard to tell from a picture. The bed load liner in my Hilux has taken tonnes of rubble, mowers, garden kit etc and will still probably last the lifetime of the vehicle. Had a truck with a disintegrating ply back one time, soon ripped that out as I require a totally maintenance free solution
I had a Transit with a ply floor which I painted (heavy duty floor paint) and then cleaned down and over coated/ touched up each year. Had it 7 years and if the new van hadn't had a decent floor in it already I would have taken it out and reused it. If you do paint it make sure you've a couple of days spare for drying time especially this time of year.
if you are going to fit normal ply paint the bottom and edges before you fit it a good qualaty floor paint should do but you might have to prime it first
