Value of trees - environmental and ecological

Using Cornwall Landscaping's excellent blog the value of trees I do have a question concerning trees.Despite some recent posts I am not anti trees, just the senseless planting with no thought of the long term consequences.btw how would I find out the environmental benefits trees - particularly the production of O2, and likely ecological value to the wild life diversity of planting particular trees?
