Utterly bonkers

I had to go down to Kent today to deliver some garden arches and obelisks to one of my garden centre customers.

A14, M11 and then the M25, which was living up to its' reputation as the worlds largest carpark I joined the queue 7 miles from the QE2 bridge. Eventually I reached the tolls which seemed to be the only cause of the queue.

When I returned from Kent the queue to the tunnel was about 3 miles, however the queue the other side, to the bridge had grown to 11 miles.

Am I missing something here but wouldn't it make more sense to put 50p a year on everyones road tax and get rid of the tolls, alternatively if a queue builds up to more than half a mile then they should be made to lift the barriers and let everyone through free until the queue has gone. I suspect the bridge and tunnel operators would soon resolve the problem.

  • Makes me glad that all my travelling is either in the village or on back roads and B roads!
  • I think you Scots have some pretty forward thinking in some areas.

No tolls in Scotland.  Scottish govt abolished them all a few years ago and funded from taxes instead.
  • Moved one year ago today from Surrey to Dorset.  Surrey/London same thing really, Kingston/Richmond are just London suburbs now.

Dorset is one of the few counties with no motorways :-) so no tolls:-))))

Phil, have an answer for you, relocate to Piddletrenthide?

Hope despite interesting deliveries, things are going well for you.

  • I would like to move to Piddletrenhide, however my biggest customer is in Peterborough, I deliver into there three or four times a week, so Dorset is little to far off the beaten track.

We are doing pretty well at the moment thanks, (touchs wood, taps head) how are things your end?
