Using the LJN chat facility

I mentioned a little while back that we now have chat embedded into the site. I am not sure if you have used this as yet and I am not too sure if everyone knows how to make it work or even where it is to be found? I have taken a couple of screenshots to illustrate where to find chat and also demonstrate how chat works. In the first screenshot you can see where to see the chat facility located as a grey bar at the base of your browser (just above the open windows and tool bar). 'Landscape Juice Network' is written in black and then next to that you can see, in brackets, the number of members who are currently on-line. Further right you will see a left facing arrow with a horizontal line above it. This will activate a small window that pops out into your screen (this can be minimised when you are working on something else). Once activated you will see a list of members who are on-line with you (your name will be included on the list). You are now able to participate in open chat (which all members of the site can see) or by right clicking on the profile of a member, you can enter into a one-to-one chat in a private room. It is still a fairly raw addition and I would suggest if you wish to have an extensive group chat then Skype of MSN would be better - I am hoping that Ning will refine the embedded facility over time. Has anyone used chat as yet - if so, what do you think of it??

  • Hi Phil

I haven't yet had cause to use the chat facility yet although I am sure it will prove to be a useful facility in time - I wondered whether there was future scope to provide a mobile version of this site, through ning or otherwise, like the way facebook has compiled a mobile format, so that those of us who are mostly on site during the week can keep up-to-date on our lunch-breaks?

    Cheers

Only just found this myself, but there is a mobile version of the site at:

    http://www.landscapejuicenetwork.com/m/

Will take a look and try and do a bit of a write-up.

Discovering that has made my day :-)
