Using Relay Turf

Just wanted to check that my calculations are right before I go ahead with a lawn job.

If my Knapsack is putting out 1L per 20sqm am I right with using 150ml of relay per 15L of water? (relay is to be applied at 5L per hec)

I hate working out the correct dose, should be easier once iam a bit more confident and done it a few more times.

Many Thaqnks

Mark

To calculate dosage accurately what is your spray width and actual square metreage of lawn of lawn to be treated. Relay is applied at 5L/Ha in 200+ litres of water your figures suggest you are spraying at 500 litres per hectare worth checking that your sprayer is delivering that amount  as must be very coarse spray, my sprayer chucks out more like 2 litres per 100sq metres .

I am assuming you have your spraying certificates.

  • Yes have spraying certificates, but has been a while since had to do any working out.

The sprayer is at 3 bar and using a yellow 02 nozzle. Its def coming out at that rate.

  • Sorry Lawnman. You made me question myself. Your right! mines putting out 1L per 50 sqm, Ive just checked. so I should use 375ml per 15L with my caculations at the right rate. Thats more like what I expected to use. I can work out how much once Ive checked out the lawn size.

Thankyou for your advice so far!

  • You shouldn't be spraying at 3 bar; 1 bar for herbicides.

I use 50ml relay to 2.5l water per 100m2 grass. Green deflector nozzle (can't remember flow rate but it's the one most of us use).

  • Why are you only using 1bar. What is the pattern like?  I wouldnt use any more than 3 bar, i find that theres no spray bounce and just got to make sure that theres no drift.

  • 1 bar and a coarse nozzle are what you should use for herbicides. Find your PA certificate notes and do some revision!
  • Ok I stand corrected, my training didn't cover these specifics on relay/selectives. I have however been using relay with great success over an extended period of time using deflectors at 1bar.
  • I use that link but in a book form which my agronomist gave me. I wasnt going to reply after Dan posted but I spoke to my agromanist who said that 2 or 3 bar would be fine with the 02 nozzle and that the spray pattern would be even.
My info from my PA1 /6 says that pressure is dependant on conditions and the chemical application guidance notes.
Thank you Jez for you advice.
