I would use my mower on both. Have used customers equipment in past, you have to get it out of storage , check fuel and oil before commencing job. Then you have to clean down when finished. More trouble than its worth so no cost saving to customer.
I agree. I would suggest that using the customers mower is actually a hindrance, as you have to set two machines up. Charge them more unless it is going to be sat there waiting for you ready to work.
I don't think it's right to charge the same price for mowing if your not using your own mower especially neighbors, a right messy problem.
Always provide your own stuff It will save any opposition. The other neighbor might get you a little Flymo to cut his grass if you give a discount.
This customer mindset winds me up, luckily I've never personally encountered it myself, I always insist on using my own gear for various reasons.
Ask them if they bring some spanners along to the garage when getting their car serviced and ask for a discount.
Rather than knocking any money off I would say to the customer who doesn't provide a mower that his bill will have to be £55 to £60 per visit hence forth, due to his neighbour complaining, or you will have to stop working for them both
depends on the qualaty of his mower it might take longer than using your own mower also what if somthing goes wrong with his mower is he going to hould you responsable if it brakes down and its 4/5 weeks before it comes back from the menders will he pay more for using your mower
What is the saving to you of using his mower? I recently completed 2.5 hr mowing job but used just £1.20 of fuel. So guessing the saving is fairly trivial....?
Not just fuel. Depreciation of value off machine, wear and tear of parts servicing oil etc
I think your client might have a point. There are many questions here really.
Why do you use his mower? Did he insist that you do this and if so why? Is his mower a higher grade machine than yours is, such as a very fine finish cylinder mower? Is this clients grass in better condition than the neighbour’s grass that you mow, and why? Does is take you longer to mow with his mower or are you quicker because of its use?
I think if all things are equal and the client is a lovely chap, then a small discount for using his machine is an act of goodwill really. If say you charged him £48 instead of £50, it would make no difference to you at all, but would make him feel like he is benefiting from the arrangement.
If however the guy is something of a control freak and is just exercising some perceived hierarchical advantage over a ‘tradesman’, then no, there should be no discount given at all.
It’s impossible to make a judgement from this distance and lack of details.
I suppose if the customer's mower was unused it would just go rusty in a shed or garage. I would say, honestly I don't mind using my own mower and/or fuel, if it's a problem
