Toro issues

Having purchased a toro pro recycler last week I was so dissatisfied with the quality of cut and bagging I've sent it back to my local dealer, has anyone else had any problems with these ? Toro still haven't responded to my email and messages online and Instagram, at £1500 I feel they should be far better,  the build quality looked exceptional,  it didn't go down too well with my local dealer and he said he would lose out financially,  the dealer explained he could try and adjust a few things but I refused as surely it should be up to scratch??  I find it hard to believe tbh... if the machine isnt doing what's its meant too , surely a full refund should be issued??

I bought mine Eight years ago new for £495 , although the deck is rusting away now its served its purpose and its reliability has been awsome .

The finish has never really impressed me on fine lawns , mainly used it for mulching those rough lawns and it has performed very well in those conditions and boxed grass off very well but the finish has never blown me away tbh .

Ended up dropping the blade to try and rectify this when it was my only mower but just started scalping , always tended to leave a longer finish than i would have liked personally but customers were always satisfied to see their long grass cut shorter .

When used on a short lawn say fortnightly it never looked as if the lawn had being cut and left tram lines in mossy lawns .

Not an all rounder but certainly comes into its own on selected jobs but can struggle on wet grass first thing in the morning , heavy dew etc .

    • The finish was terrible with mine , the dealer had to come and take pics it was that bad

      Leaving some strands uncut ...

Very very poor in damp,  my Honda which is not a commercial model put it to shame,  I'm going to try the stihl 7 series ...

It could be that pro machines are engineered to be more enduring and last longer but its not always reflected in the finish they produce .

You could take the view that you had the mower on demo but its just not suitable for your needs as the end user which is reasonable .

What does the dealer say he can do to improve its performance ?

I remember when i first got mine and the dealer told me to bring it back in if it starts to feel sluggish and they could tweak the pistons ???

Its alway being fast and in its element on long tough jobs but underwhelming on small to medium lawns .

        • Dealer mentioned adjusting revs and blade , maybe the issue is the blade,  I'm not willing to tamper with a mower at that' cost

You don't buy a ferrari then start changing bits the next day as its not performing as it should

Possibly revs and blade engagement .

I think you have done the right thing to reject the mower for the price you paid .

  • We ran one commercially disappointed too , didn't do anything well. Do yourself a favour buy Honda HRX 537 HY we've run several for a few years on big sites, superb finish, excellent mulcher and great collector, we swap ours every 2 years as the gearbox is the weak point. Wouldn't go anywhere near the Stihl ,

    • Hi Peter,  funny you mention that,  I've had that mower for 2 years it's been unbelievable,  I'll deffo be getting another one that's for sure

      Lightweight too

The stihl 7 series looks superb in damp,  long conditions

      • Stephen, couldn't agree more on the HRX. My multi franchise dealer refused to sell us a Stihl ! Yes good in the wet, build quality atrocious. Etesia are fantastic in the wet, plastic box , open back but at a cost!

        • Was it the stihl 7 series though? Heard nothing but great things about them , I use to have an etesia but was the smaller model

          Maybe  a future investment

          • Stephen, yes 7 series, they're one of the largest dealers in the Midlands and sell a lot of machines, they obviously see the warranty claims, no doubt there will be users who will contradict what the dealer has said. They are very honest in their advice , not a case of trying to push another brand where they make a bigger margin, we spend substantial amounts with them so want to keep us as customers. I would spend the extra on an Etesia every time.

As to your experience with Toro, doesn't surprise me, we have issues with the Hayter 56 pro,s we run, which is a Toro brand and although have received replies to issues these are B***S***. . They refuse to address genuine complaints with the stock answer of blaming operator for the machines shortcomings, apparently after 40 years in the trade we are cutting grass incorrectly!! I would reject the mower as unfit for purpose and leave a review on Trustpilot if I were you, but don't expect a reply to the review!
