Telegraph: Prospect of fuel protests rises

"Britain faces the prospect of a fresh wave of fuel protests after campaigners and MPs condemned new tax rises that will see the price of petrol increase by more than 3p a litre this week"

Source: Telegraph

I'm not one to advocate stopping others going about their business but something drastic has to happen.

I would, however, urge everyone to start considering alternative fuels sources. It's not certain but estimates range from 20-100 years of oil reserves - depending on whose figures you trust.

In terms of time-scale, 40 years isn't going to cause any of us too much of a concern in business terms but in terms of price - even allowing for fluctuations and the odd recessional retreat - the price of oil is only going in one direction.

  • A fuel blokade would be worse for my business than than the snowfall we have just had.

Strike action like the French do everytime they don't like somthing IMO is not the way forward. Maybe if all the associations across the board got together instead of fighting each other then maybe we could lobby the government with abit of clout.

Maybe we could start a petition to ask the government for a tax rebate based on fuel usage.

The first challenge would be to determine if any rebate should be levied based on the lowest or highest use!

  • lets all support these protests !  80% of petrol/diesel price is government TAX *
  • DIY Bio-diesel is somethingI've looked into, as I know a Builder who runs his van on it, the processing machines and kit cost about £270. The big problem is so many people doing it now, that getting hold of used cooking oil is nearly impossible, the local fish n chip shop gets rid of it by just leaving it by the door! (ive got 6 tubs now...).

May be worht looking into in your areas tho? And for fuel duty, anything bellow 2000 litres is duty free if you do it yourself. Get a member of staff to do it, and your a refinery and get hit.

If you can find some local takeaways etc, you may have to pay, as I belive some suppliers now offer £2 rebate on used oil (20litres), so beat that and it should be yours.

  • i would attend a protest however i wouldnt partake in a blockade. i understand that the country needs tax to run but the government should make pay cuts to mp's. if you start a petition please do send it to me.

phil in order to get more signitures could you create a blank petition template for us all to print off and get genuine signitures from our friends, family, customers etc then post them to a nominated person to deliver them to an mp or houses of parliment.

  • also i converted a past vehicle of mine with a veg oil system i might concider another conversion however i found it to be a bit inconvenient, i had to go to a wholesalers (makro or bookers) to buy veg oil or get used oil and filter it but you have to thin it down if using filterd waste. then funnel it in the van. filtering it and thinning it was too messy for me. i was tempted to get a fuel pod that i saw i'll try and find a link and post it.
