Stihl battery strimmer

Evening all, now transitioning across to battery powered equipment, I use a Stihl fs50c daily and also have a large strimmer for the beasty jobs, just wondering which battery strimmer and battery to go get for everyday use just for edging lawns really, thankyou Steve

  • hi steve, for me definitely stihl FSA85 (new type is called a FSA86?) my absolutely favourite battery strimmer, I have much more powerful ones which are too agressive for tidy work like lawn edges. been using for many years & still the best for this job, so light & balanced, use 2mm line. AP200 battery gives the best combination of run time and balance. But if got any of the older version batteries AP115 or AP160 are also good in this machine

    • That's great, thanks for reply

thankyou I'll get one ordered is it the 86R, I've only got two 300 battery's so maybe get a few 200s , 30 mins doesn't seem like long but will see.. do you turn it on a side to edge lawns...

      • that's it steve, FSA86R. If you have ap300 batteries its fine to try it with them. See how you get on before splashing out on other packs. I tend to use mine just as a strimmer the edging lawns on side trick doesnt really work for me, i'm more a long handled shears guy for that lol

        • Great, I'll get one of those for sure...

At the moment I've only used 300 on the hedge trimmers where they've not been recommended but to me they seem fine...

I'll order one unit only and see how I get on

          Cheers

          • nice one not tried the fsa86r personally but if its anything like its predecessor the fsa85 it will be "just the ticket" for your needs. would buy one myself but no need to replace mine as seem virtually unbreakable. Only maintenance being a new spool occasionally when they wear away to nothing

We bought a fs90 I think and I rate it ahead of the one it replaced which I can't remember and used for edging lawns but also has a little more power if needed. You can turn down the power when near windows etc. I have another on order for the new van but they are on back order...

    • i have a fsa90(r) and find it a bit enthusiastic for edging the finer lawns, personally. For me it's a great tool for sorting smallish areas of overgrown grass and weeds where getting the FSA130 out is not quite warranted. In attack mode at full throttle it is impressively aggressive, but if pushed too hard for too long mine will over heat and shut down. Maybe there's something wrong with it. Still a very useful machine though
