  • Without knowing the design of balustrade you need this is very difficult!

If you can be flexible with the design and want a simple tensioned wire system, why don't you specify galvanised steel angle/"t-section" posts and source all the stainless steel wires and swages etc. needed from a specialist marine supplier. Which ever way you look at it stainless steel is always going to be an expensive option.
  • Thankyou David the design is cable wire balustrade - horizontal wires.

  • Hi Karl,

Thankyou for this I should have been more specific the detail at the moment is horizontal cable wire with steel uprights.

  • Try Kensington traders in Luton (they don't seem to have a website at the moment) speak to Mark he is normally very helpful or F H Brundle I haven't used any stainless steel products so can't give you an informed opinion but have dealt with both companies. In my experience Kensington traders tend to get it right far more often than Brundles but having said that Brundles is okay to deal with.
  • Hi - This is Nick from S3i.

I'm afraid the comment from David (above) is true - stainless steel will always be an expensive option - it's the nature of the material and the engineering.

However we always work with people to get the most cost effective solution.

First of all - it is nigh-on impossible to quote a per metre rate. Companies quoting a per metre rate are generally allowing for the worst case (and most expensive) scenario.

You say you looked at our website - yet we don't quote the balustrade costs on there - simply because there isn't a standard! (height, distance between posts, type of handrail, safety considerations, steps, corners, angles, etc)

If your budget is £1000 or £10,000 we will have the solution - or at least offer the best compromise solution!

The best way to get an accurate quote is to provide a company with a sketch of the layout showing approx dimensions. This will allow us to work out the most cost effective solution.

For example - do you know our tension cable system can run for up to 10 metres and still provide good tension - this makes it extremely cost effective even when compared to wooden spindles - and it takes less time to fit! (e.g. 9 horizontal cable runs at 10 metres with all fittings = £306.00 which = £30.60 per metre)

Another point to mention (in answer to David's point (above) is to be very careful when mixing a galvanised product with stainless steel - this can cause bi-metallic corrosion - and mean a very disappointed client!

I would recommend talking to an specialist - whatever you decide to do.

    Kind regards
