Hello, I've just been asked to price per sqm for top quality artificial lawn for an existing client. I've done artificial lawns in the past, but not recently, and was wondering if anyone could:
1) give me a standard going rate/s for per square metre, to supply and fit top-quality artificial lawn.
2)Advise on what brands/types to use or avoid.
3)Advise on how I would best prevent the client's large dogs(these are like small horses) tearing/lifting-up the 'lawn'.

Many thanks.

Sam.

    Hi Sam,

It'll depend on how much preparation work is involved - turf lifting, sub-base etc.

The few times I've installed artificial grass has been for clients with dogs. I've always found Express Grass to be a reliable supplier - the 'Deepdale' grass is a good quality, reasonably priced grass.

As long as it's pinned down to timber battens or glued along the edge, there shouldn't be a problem with dogs - the last client had a Great Dane and the grass is still in place. Previously, the lawn was a mess.

  • Thanks very much Stephen.I'll check out your supplier recommendation.

The lawn is indeed a mess and needs lifting. I also intend to do it A1, so it'll need a sub-base too. Also, don't you find that the timber battens, even tanalised, rot-down pretty fast being in the soil?

Any idea on an approx. square metre cost please?

    Cheers buddy.

Costing is hard without knowing the full facts and how much you pay for waste disposal, MOT1 etc. but as a general rule of thumb assuming full dig out of existing soil and laying a decent sub base then I would pitch in the region of £50 - £80 M2 all inclusive and adjust that figure down if over say 40M2 as you should be getting better bulk prices on most of the materials

A ballpark figure of around £70-75 per sq.m. should allow a decent enough profit.

I use tannalised softwood decking for the edge surround - should last a good few years unless the ground is permanently boggy.

  • Many thanks Graeme.

  • Thanks again Stephen, much appreciated.
