sawn sandstone setts

Anyone know what's going on with Marshalls' Fairstone sawn setts? They seem to be impossible to get hold of and suppliers are not being very helpful about when they will be available!  Anyone else had similar problems? or know of comparable 100 x 100 sawn sandstone setts? I have a scheme which is finished all bar a few m2 of setts - contractor has had to lay gravel and leave it until they are in stock again, but seriously wondering when that will be!

Thanks!

  • Thanks Paul & Gary. CED do a sawn yorkstone but it's way over budget, and their granite wouldn't look right with the sawn sandstone slabs already down. Global stone do 100 x 100 setts but they're riven and again we were looking for sawn. My contractor has managed to track down enough sawn Fairstone setts now, just in a cooler colour than I wanted but client is happy and wants the job finished...
I've been really disappointed with the way Marshalls are dealing with this supply issue - they seem to take the attitude that by just not committing to a delivery date, the customer will hang on indefinitely until the products turn up. We had one date which came and went and apparently only 6 crates of setts were shipped in and of course that wasn't enough for all the back orders. Marshalls seem to be incapable of saying with any certainty how much stock they have in or are expecting in, and it's certainly putting me off using them again.
  • Rose,

Try giving Norman Cockcroft at Dolmens stone a call, 01274 869953.

    All best,

    Dave

  • thanks to Naman & Dave - project was completed last year - we ended up compromising and using a different colour but it looked fine as instead of picking up the warm colours of the house it picked up the cool greys of the summerhouse and seat (see pics). But will bear your recommendations in mind for future similar projects.
  • Hi

I have checked the stock lists for the setts and we have plenty, so I am not sure why your supplier has a problem.

You can tell them you have checked with Marshalls are they have plenty of product.

If there is still a problem please call the main marshalls number 01422 312000 and ask to speak to Maggie Jowett who can help you order them

    Thanks

Less than 8 weeks ago I was advised that the 100mm x 100mm sawn and tumbled setts are no longer a stock item and Marshall's now only supply 200mm x 100mm sawn and tumbled setts, I was told I got the last available..

I had to have a full crate when i only required less than 300, granted the project was completed using your product and the customer was happy but I have the balance of whats now a discontinued and very expensive item

could you kindly advice if this product is still available in 100mm x 100mm sawn and tumbled Chris?

    Kind Regards

You can always add these to the classified section if you need to shift them on?

  • Hi all,

After a bit of digging, i hope that this clarifies things...

As Chris said we do have some stock left of the 100x100x50mm Sawn Setts in both Silver Birch and Autumn Bronze, however we will not be getting any more stock of this product in as it has been discontinued.

I am afraid there seems to have been some confusion over the Marshalls Fairstone sizes which are actually available. In January 2011 we discontinued Marshalls Fairstone 100x100x50mm Sawn Setts.

We notified our stockists customers of this towards the end of 2010, our Register Members should have been informed of the changes by their Installer Development Manager before Christmas.

    The current Fairstone Driveways range includes;

    • Fairstone Split and Tumbled Setts: 100x100x50mm and 200x100x50mm. Available in Autumn Bronze and Silver Birch.
    • Fairstone Sawn and Tumbled Setts 200x100x50mm. Available in Autumn Bronze and Silver Birch.
    • New Fairstone Driveway Setts: Mixed pack of 120x160x50mm, 160x160x50mm and 240x160x50mm Setts. Available in Autumn Bronze and Silver Birch.

If you would like further details of the products available in the range you can order a copy of Marshalls latest brochure through our brochure hotline: 0845 820 5000, or visit www.marshalls.co.uk/transform and click the "2011 Brochure" link.

I'll also let the sales office know where they can find the remaining stock on the system.

    Hope this helps,

    Matt
