You will need to scavenge a full length of zig-zag wire, just unhook the ends and by turning, it should 'unscrew' out. By putting the two cut ends of fence together and with a bit of patience, you can then 'screw' your piece of scavenged wire from one to another. Hope that makes sense, but it does work!!
Ok get your drift, bit like putting flat packed gabions together then.
Next stupid question, where do you get a full lenght of zig-zag wire ? do you 'cut' it out of a section fencing ?
I've seen something done with a straight lenght of metal ie 6ft long by 1inch wide and quite thin, almost slotted in/interleaved into the two secions. I'm guessing it's similar to what you are describing but not as invisible ?
Yup, you will have to scavenge from somewhere. You will find that once you start, 'winding it in' it will work fine. I have had some rolls with a spare bit for such a purpose.
The piece of metal is a standard stretcher bar which you could slide thought the two pieces and secure with wire twists - bit clumsy looking I reckon.
Funny enough, I saw this being done today.
It's actually quite easy but you'll probably have to release the tension from one end of the rind to be able to re-stretch the wire to thread in the connecting wire.
There's a couple of images on this US site:
