Post Chelsea review, what's hot and what's not

Now that the whole thing is over, well apart from the the poor souls left behind to clear the site, what good things came from the Show.We/I and him and herself think the the TV coverage was better this year than most, with more emphasis on plants, which after all is what gardens are for and about. You can have your old paving, decking, or whatever, but it's not really "green" like a plant is.Reading reviews elsewhere it seems finally that the bubble of grow your own has finally burst. This has to be good news for the Trade, as rather than private gardeners fiddling around trying to grow a few lettuce, they might let a Landscaper or Designer in to do their whole garden. The grow you own-ers have perhaps realised that plants need feeding, watering, and get hit by late frosts, and they need to call in an expert, that's you lot!Just a few thoughts, balanced as always.

  • I don't think Chelsea is much of a guide as to whether grow-your-own has had its day.

Gardeners World Live last year had so many grow-your-own themed gardens there was barely room for anything else. It will be interesting to see if this continues this year.
