Plant identity

Evening all,

Could anyone help identifying the plant in the photo. A friend has had a delivery of top soil containing a mass of this curiosity.  Is it young Japanese knotweed. I'm not sure myself.

  • Could it be houttuynia? Bit difficult to tell from pic. Still not the easiest of stuff to get rid of.

    • Hi Glen,

No true , it's hardly a victory if it is that but it's just gonna be a lawn ,so I guess it could be mown out eventually. Hasn't houtynnia got spaghetti like roots though??

      • Ah, maybe. I was looking at the foliage.

Could be Lysimachia ciliata ‘Firecracker’ or similar ?  But picture looks more focused on skin than the foliage

    clumps spread in herbaceous borders

    • Hi Jonathan ,

Isn't firecracker a darker blacker leaf??...smaller more pointed???.. nice plant mind.. again I'd be happier if it was our suspect!!

      • Paul, have you just started this thread to show off your plant knowledge? 😉

        • Hahahaha... that would demonstrate more intelligence than I possess Glen.. 😀

      • PRO
