Parts Lists

I've had a big problem this past week with my main mower, a Viking by Stihl. The biggest problem I've had is the small changes made to parts as the mower progresses through its production life. In the past spares supplied have been different to those fitted, and it takes time to get the correct parts, time I don't have to play with when a mower is broken. I've requested a parts list for my mower from Stihl so I can email my dealer with the exact information on parts to order, rather than trying to explain the part required, usually with me calling parts something completely different to what Stihl calls it, and trying to photograph it. I've received wrong parts, though for the same mower but of a different variety model. Stihl say they won't supply a parts list, as this is company policy. What do others do when trying to order parts?I have a Kubota rideon mower, and Kubota were more than happy to supply a complete breakdown of parts for the mower, this makes things so much easier when contacting the dealer.I'm now in the process of looking for a new strimmer, and Stihl were top of my list, but with the poor customer service received over the past week on my broken mower I'm now looking at other makes.

Stihl GB have repeatedly refused to make parts diagrams available to contractors. I understand they have previously requested parts manuals be taken down / off dealer websites.

They do belong to LJN, so I'd suggest you continue to make your views known to them.....

I feel they can do so much more and engage with Contractors.

I've asked them to review and respond on LJNso, the Ball's in your court Stihl GB.....

Hahaha, thought I'd best delete my first comment, didn't want to cause controversy...:-)
  • That site only lists the parts for the MB4RTP V4.0 Mower. I'm sure Stihl will now be attempting to close the site down. Heaven help us if we learn the correct part numbers to order!

Hi Andy, thanks for the post.

The STIHL policy regarding parts diagrams is that they are maintained on a system we use with our network of Approved Dealers.  A model of chainsaw, brushcutter, lawn mower and all other products at the point of launch is often very different to the model a few months or years on, like your MB 4 RTP. We constantly strive to improve, modify and change the products based on feedback from across the globe and this means an ever evolving parts diagram system.  This is updated constantly and is integrated into our dealers ordering system for STIHL globally to make it simple for them to look up your serial number and find the correct part for your machine. Providing this information and exploded diagrams to all STIHL and VIKING users wouldn’t be possible because of these changes and because we want to ensure our dealers can offer the best service regarding repairs and spare parts. We apologise again for the difficulty you have had with ordering the part for your VIKING mower but unfortunately we were not able to get the part from VIKING in Austria any sooner. We strive to carry spares for our vast catalogue of products at our warehouse in GB, but your part was unfortunately not available at the time. We understand your local dealer has sourced the handle for you from a showroom model and hope you will shortly be back up and running.

    Kind regards,

    STIHL GB

    • If it's just a case of updating parts lists with new improvements online then why not have a site where companies like mine can register and login to view the latest parts for machines & part numbers, and then I can contact my dealer with the specific details of the part I require? When I'm out on jobs and something goes wrong, I want to have the correct item delivered ASAP. Like my handle, the part initially ordered was for an older mower model, but it took around 4 days to appear, and the attachments to mower were also wrong and required reordering. That's 4 days plus the time taken to reorder. For an operational business, whose tools are an essential part of each day's work, then minimal outage of machines us required. Being able to identify the part broken/missing etc on my equipment, looking up a parts list on my mobile phone there and then, and placing an order through my dealer is extremely important. Because of this issue I've decided to purchase my new strimmer from a different company that openly provides this information to me. In today's world of digital technology, Stihl need to catch up and provide what customers are screaming out for.
      • Agree there...  its a feeble excuse from Stihl GB.  It's also a good idea, if you can afford it, to have a "back-up" for every essential piece of equipment so if it takes a bit of time to get the correct part, it's not a disaster.

    • Many of us maintain our own equipment, and there is no way to get at the parts diagrams and order parts. Don't know about anyonse else, when I need a part I tend to look it up on an evening as I don't have time during the day. Look it up, order it and repair as soon as the parts appear.

I've just fitted a new clutch cable on my Honda HRD, looked it up online, ordered from L&S, fitted one night and off I go again.

If Honda can do it, I would hazard a guess Stihl can.
