Northern Ireland Landscape Supplies

The previous thread on what folks would like to see at their local landscape supplier, has got me thinking about the possibility of diversifing.

I know from experience that getting half loads, or generally small quanities of loose materials locally is almost impossible or very inconvient.

My plan would be to supply the landscape trade bulk loads of bark in various grades, compost, blended farm yard manure, screened top soil, landscape materials, various sizes of bagged compost, lawn seed, lawn fertilizer, etc. all ex yard. I wouldn't carry decoratve stone as there are plenty of firms that offer that service already.

All bark, compost, top soil, etc could either be loaded on to trailers loose, or in cubic metre bags.

I am based between Hillsborough and Dromore, Co. Down, one mile from the A1 dual carriageway, and six miles from Moira (going the back roads).

Are there any landscape guys on here that would be interested in availing in such a facility?

Cheers, Andrew.

  • There is a crowd called 'landscape supplies ni' doing this kind of thing between bangor and ards but i have never seen another outfit. They also keep a smattering of various paving, rockery stone etc but i have found that they are simple a middle man for that stuff and can easily be cut out by going to emerson direct. They have screening set-up and produce real nice quality top soil and also do all of the decorative stone, grades of bark etc. It is a godsend when you need a half ton of decorative stone or ton of topsoil loose etc.

It may well be something that would work well if you have lots of rent free space! Good luck but unfortunately a bit far for me to come from Holywood.

  • Hey Simon, have been down to 'Landscape Supplies NI', off the Bangor / Conlig Road at N'ards before. Plenty of stuff about there and very useful for those landscapers based on the Ards pennisula.

Was ordering gravel and building stone from Norman Emerson last week and they no longer supply bark products.

  • lol are you steeling my ideas im also based in NI
  • bulk lawn fertiliser would be good, also bulk mini chipped bark. I havn't had any problems getting any of the other items you have mentioned though.
  • Sorry CJ, didn't know you are also based in Northern Ireland. It is a good idea, it has certainly got me thinking. You up in Omagh / Fintona direction?
  • Andrew,

I believe you could be onto a good thing, if you could find a suitable, well located yard. Being based in ards, I use the Landscape Supplies ni regularly. They are well located and provide a good service. Being on a main road they have great exposure, but it always amazes me that none of my clients have ever gone in there. they are happier paying double and more  for the same stuff in the garden centres. If you could attract the commercial guys and the general public you would do very well IMO.

  • yes andrew down in that direction, your a long way of anyway, hows the landscaping going up your way.
