cant make my mind up weather to get a newer mini digger  or a compact tractor with front loader and back hoe, thinking of the pro's the tractor could have by putting a rotovator on the back when needed or trailer and many other options, any view's on this

seeing as your main line of work is paving then the mini digger is more suited to this type of work and more versatile being a 360 degree machine plus more powerful too

  • id suggest a   kobelco? eg    360  second/hand .    have u seen the amount of unused mini diggers about.?

takes a while to get £13k plus interest back in job profit !      unless u get a jcb on free finance ...

  • didnt think about how much power a compact might have as i have never used one with a back hoe on it before, thanks for the advice paul & mick

  • i was thinking on spending between 7-9k for one, i understand about what you are saying about the interest on finance, but i am one of these people who do not do finance, if i havnt got the cash then i save it up untill i can afford it, its just the way i am

  • Hi Phil,

I would echo what the guys have already said about the mini digger over a compact tractor.

You can also run earth drill / augers for fencing and planting on the excavator which would make those types of job a lot easier.

Last weekend i put in 90 holes, 750 deep for security fencing amongst a line of tree roots in under 2 hours with a little micro digger and auger, so i think you will see the benefits over a tractor on this type of work aswell.

    Just expanding your thought processes.

  • Peter, 1minute 20 seconds a hole. That is some going. Want to come and work for me? What size excavator are you running?I have a Kubota U 10-3 and have been advised that anything less than a 1.5 tonne machine will not have enough grunt to run an auger. I am having a trials of a Kanga Kid with an auger attachment next week to see if they are any good. Anyone got any experience of these machines?

Phil, I would echo everyone's sentiments on the excavtaor versus mini / micro digger. I think a lot of multi tools fail to deliver the basics as well as there straight counterparts.

  • Hi Charles, this was on a little JCB Micro.

its not what power you have in the machine its the teeth on the auger thats makes all the difference.

if you let me know what the ground is like where you are and the diameter of hole you are after and the machine you are mounting it to, i will give you an idea of a package to suit your requirements as on the other side of my business we are equipment supppliers.

i dont have the augers etc on the site as to many variations.

on my little micro, we run up to 750mm diameter augers for tree planting.

also have a look at the site for our 200 series Avant range as it does all that a kanga can do, and a lot more and its wheeled rather than tracked so wont make as much mess on the ground.

if you would like a catalogue, just message me your email address or email me at Peter@ReachitMoveitCrushit.com
