I think the bigger problem is using old turf. Turf should be laid within 2 days of cutting and it looks to me as though those that are not green had been rolled for a week at least before laying, causing then to 'heat up', yellow and rot. It will be a struggle to get them back at this time of year I would think as they will be reluctant to root.
Looks like a problem with some of the turfs rather than the flooding, as others look OK. As Colin says, it looks as if they were rolled up too long.
If the area is flooding, it will be an on-going problem even with new turf, though. It'll need draining to somewhere, but there looks like no slope at all on the site. What's the underlying soil like, and what prep was done?
Hi guys its appears the turf was left to sit before I received it =[ What you can't see in the picture is the soil level was reduce by 2ft to the left hand corner, the soil was rotovated leveled then rotovated again, tread and raked so it was perfect then laid, after that it i layed the first section which was fine, the next day is hammered down the hole sight was under water, the next day i was able to lay the rest the turf was only yellow but not black, then its rained heavy for a week and the picture is the result the turf is currently waterlogged including the greener patch are we saying remove and replace ? the forecast to come it again extremely poor ?
Im in agreement we do £400 sqM a month, they have definately been rolled up too long. You would get away with it in a wet august or september but the soil will not be warm enough to repair these. There is very little new growth on the ones around the post, with lesser daylight it needs every blade it can get.
Have you used a membrane underneath? I know some that do and it tends to make for a much wetter lawn anyway which is great in the summer but not so good in a flood prone area.
My verdict: start again using fresh turf and make sure there is adequate drainage
Well without disclosing too much info the chap i got the lawn from was a local rep of Rolawn ? I would of thought that the first batch we got would be excellent and obviously gain repeated work but it wasn't just the colour quality i was unhappy with after a day or so, i've brought rolawn medallion turf before and it was about well over an inch thick and completely uniform kept for over a week only being laid out twice a day for watering, the turf i was given basicly died after two days, several pieces had rips in them and most were slightly different sizes i can assure you i was livid trying to lay it and then it all turned out like this =[
Any advice with talking with the rep ?
Turf supplier replaced lawn without a hitch, his advice even if its raining the lawn still has to go down otherwise it will heat up and die quickly ?
