Makita Shredder

This video is 8mins long and a bit tedious so is only for those wondering what machine to buy as there is little information out there for this end of the market and us small guys are equally as important as the big guys.

The GSP5500 is the shredder we bought six months ago, Makita did only market it as a shredder and it does do what it says on the tin but for £1100 (original rrp over £2000) I would have expected something more efficient. We bought it on the strength of What Kit's review which I am not too happy with. (Please read). We won't put in branches over 40mm, the thicker they are the longer they take to push through and the vibrations are tremendous. This is a robust machine but if Makita had employed a self feed mechanism they could have cornered this end of the market and helped a lot of small businesses.

And yes Karen knows she's not supposed to put her arm down the chute and if she looks a little disorientatered at the end there it's cuz it took her two hours to do four dumpy bags of whippy stuff.

Be ready on the volume button - it starts off like a german rock band!

  • Basically, we'd like to be a more efficient unit... but also..

  • I can't see the video - "this video is private"

2 hours seems a little slow, my machine turned this:

3314684289?profile=originaltoday in 3.5 hours. My customer wanted to keep and compost the shreddings.

Thanks for letting me know, I've reloaded the video.

So I've been a mug, well that's ok cuz I've lived with that for some time – or maybe you think I've misrepresented it, or that Karen's not up to it (I hope you don't think that), or maybe you disagree with me about What Kit's review? I'm sure I haven't got the wrong end of the stick and this is actually what all low end shredders are like because our Bosch was easy to work with by comparison (if only they'd make a bigger one with a petrol engine)

Shredders have been discussed many times but I think some film footage of the different machines would be useful for people trying to choose.

I've put this up before multiple times in other discussions on chipper/shredders, so posted here for info (ok an offical video, but from experience it is not staged ans they can process huge amounts)

We use the Cougar 17 DR EVO's.

Please dont take offence Pete but that shredder (vibrator) looks to be as much use as a chocolate  tea pot. I would sell it and get something a bit quicker. Sure it will be more expensive but you have to get something that is actually worth using.
