I was put through a course two months ago
the company name was Lantra if you look up there site you may find some answers
the course was for a day and gives you a ticket for 5 years up to ten ton
hope this helps
From a quick look, it seems Lantra are the assessing body (like NPTC) while a 3rd party (Iie the trainer who follows the Lantra training sylabus) actually does the training...

I think your best bet it so get one in for the job and let him have a supervised play were he cant damage too much, after a wile he will hone his skills.
What sort of digger do you hire the most? You should probably train him on that as if its a .75t and you train hm on a 1.5t or bigger he may not be able to put up with the more jittery nature of the machine.
with the clients we have you will need a ticket and i beleive everybody who use's one for trade should have it
in our trade there are many types of machines that are a danger.
yes being trained does'nt make you a skilled operater, but being shown what all the controls do and how to operate them, the correct way and service and grease all points keeping machine running
in my opion H/S is a must these are not toys and can injury & Kill and course a lot of damage.
