LPG only works with petrol engines as far as I am aware. You could always try running on chip fat (at your risk!!)

  • hi you can convert diesel to lpg but only runs on a percentage of lpg with the diesel. it makes the deisel go further. It does save you money but it costs alot to convert it depends on how quick you will get your money back to how many miles you do a year
  • lpg conversion saves 25% of the amount of diesel but then you have to add on the amount of lpg used so in real terms it saves around 12% in cost and the conversions are around 1400 so i cant see its worth it

Yep, can't do it with diesel. Well you can but it wouldn't be cost affective at all.

The whole LPG thing has crossed my mind several times as my neighbour does conversions. I think my next work vehicle could be a 4x4, so an LPG conversion would help to keep running costs a little more acceptable, unless they whack more tax on it.
  • £1000-£1500 for conversion on typical jeep? takes a year to pay@ 20k a year .

i had 2 . now back on diesel . saves time = money , less trouble . less time / miles to find an lpg station that is open / not run out of gas .............

in my experienced opinion (5yrs) save yourself and dont bother.

it worked for me at the time and was easier to sell vehicles as larger engines 2.4/3.2 petrol.

diesels worth more on resale / more reliable / better towing/torque go more miles on a tank and you dont have a large 90ltr gas tank in the boot !! and fillers at garage/lpg can be a right pain.

u need to keep vehicle for 5 yrs if doing lg/con and make sure expertly fitted ( mine were fine )
  • My van was already running on gas when I bought it in November. It's a 2.0 16v Renault Trafic and running on LPG is absolutely fine, a £60 fill up (£50 LPG £10 petrol) does me for the week but as mentioned above, it is a pain when the local stations run out which they have done this week so at the mo I'm currently spending £10-£15 a day on petrol alone!!
  • Thanks guys, the updates have made my mind up and I wont bother. Better putting my money into a good petrol chipper/shredder.
