LJN Yearbook and quarterly magazine

We have an enormous amount of member generated information on the network now.

It's potent and important stuff and it's helping members of all disciplines and levels of skill and experience.

I've been talking to a few people this week about drawing together the best stories and information (with the respective authors' permission) into a a yearly handbook and quarterly magazine.

Karl recently suggested LJN awards; this may be a way of introducing awards. Advertising would help to fund the magazine and pay for a small group of judges to tour the shortlisted gardens for the final judging.

I'd anticipate a yearbook to include information that is savable for use in your business and special features and articles too.

It would be free and sent out to members  of LJN and supported by sponsors and advertisers.

would it not be better for the first few mags to be data file like pdf which could be put on email, then it could be distributed further than just ljn members ?

just a thought and would save on printing costs aswell

  • I have to say I agree with Neal. One of the great strengths of LJN is that it is blazing a trail in the online world and frankly leaving everyone behind in that respect . As a member of a certain unmentionable trade association this is one of my greatest bug bears - that they haven't grasped this vitally important nettle with any conviction yet. I think the online world that LJN inhabits is it's greatest strength and I want to see it forging forwards not peddling backwards. Hell, you can always print off a magazine if you don't want to read it on your computer. It's better news for the envronment and would cost less to sponser (possibly meaning more and better content?!)

yeah good idea with the PDF but the newly launched Pro Landscaper magazine is on its 3rd month of publication and is most certainly going from strength to strength as Novembers edition is the best so far

  • Good point Mick, I guess my response would be that the Pro-Landscapers guys are seasoned print specialists whereas LJN  has uniquely 'made its bones' in the online world. Each to their own perhaps -that way we get to appreciate the best of them both!
