  • Your supplier is correct, there is no labelled chemical for the control of Leather Jackets/Chafer Grubs.

The only thing I can suggest is to fully aerate the affected area, this will encourage the Leather Jackets to hatch and fly away followed by a foliar feed in the form of a soluble or liquid product to help recover the area.

    • Thanks Bethany.
  • Nematodes are an option and as Bethany suggests cultivating the soil is suppose to work so increase aeration and r drainage

Leather jackets don't do much damage but animals trying to eat them can - but not problematic on our lawn as quite relaxed about it - prefer some life in mine rather than a green desert!

Chafer grubs can eat grass roots so do more damage again nematodes and cultivation methods reduce likelihood of a problem.

Know your pest before you try to find the solution!

    • Thanks. But definetly leather jackets,
  • Try Rigby Taylor i worked for a company and they treated airfields with a chemical for leather jackets so there will be something.

    • chlorpyrifos was recently withdrawn from the market so nothing now
      • Your right Jo.

    • Thanks

Bump.......Are there any new chemical options for dealing with Leather jackets? Or is it still just Nematodes and aerating of lawns? Many thanks

  • Like has been said the grubs themselves are not a problem,  its the birds feeding on them . I have a few jobs that have an annual problem with these , and when I put a conventional weed feed and mosskill down , which i'd be doing anyway ...the problem goes away... everytime
