Lawn Circles edged with brick

I`m going to be doing some work in a customers garden soon, they have asked for 2 circles of lawn that will be edged with bricks.Has anyone done this before? Am I right in thinking that a circle of mot compacted with a wacker, then bricks placed on a bed of mortar with a substancial haunch would be the right way to go about it?The circles will be around 4 metres in diameter, how many bricks will i need roughly? And where might i be able to find these in the north west? Many thanks again. If anybody has any pics of similar projects, i`d love to see them!Cheers Jim

If circles are 4m in diameter you will need 84 bricks per circle provided they were 6 inch, would just put a base of cement round the circumference, personally wouldn't compact area within circle with wacker plate would just compress with feet & take soil /turf up to brick height but just my thoughts, dare say some other peeps will be along with advice.
  • What Stephen says is true and good advice. What way are you planning on laying the bricks? I have attached a crappy paint image to show what I mean.

Should have added provided they were laid end to end.
  • Hi there

You need to use your maths - work out your circle circumference by equation; circumf = 2x radius x pie (couldn't find the symbol 3.144444 etc) so 4m circumference would be 12.56m then divide that by your brick length will give you the amount you need.

I've done the circle edging several times, don't need to use mot or wacker it but cement in the bricks and make sure they are haunched in firmly where the pressure will be greatest (i.e on the other side of the grass).

Make sure you set your heights first so that your grass will sit slightly proud of the bricks so the mower won't hit.
