  • Fixed or rotating?
Also depends how much you looking to spend. Top con do a good rotating laser and target for staff' which are easy to use and set up and make life very easy for setting dig level over big areas.

For site surveys would you not be better getting a dumpy level? Which can still be used for setting out too.

This is a good page to look at to help with using a dumpy level if unsure.
  • I have a little Stabila laser level - Stabila LU. It has a good range (40m according to the spec) and would appear to be ideal for what you want. They are slightly fiddly to adjust with the screw-thread adjusters but work great overall. I use mine for both setting out and surveys. The case it comes in has a built in thread to attach to a tripod. Overall a decent and relatively inexpensive tool.
