If you are using it on soft ground ie anything other than non level paving then an utter waste of time and dangerous (they overbalance easily).

A henchman is worth spending a fortune on, lots of posts on the subject and Info on the henchman website.

Better than the platform you link to although not comparable to the henchman you could get by with a set of decent class 1 (industrial) builders steps but unlike with a henchman you cant level the legs so not as stable.
  • I use a set of similar platforms along with a hedgemaster classic with extender for the trickier stuff. The platforms are very stable as long as the ground is level - the wide base helps a great deal. You can bung a wedge under a foot if the ground is slightly sloping but anything over say 15 degrees and you will struggle. The lack of a handrail makes dismount when carrying gear a bit trickier too.

The big advantage is that you have a much larger working platform than a hedgemaster or henchman so you don't have to reposition as often. What I would really like to see is a stronger more professional version with telescopic legs (like the henchman, hedgemaster) so that it can be levelled.
  • i have just been ask to quote to cut some conifer hedges that are 16 or 18 ft high i am going to hire a scafford tower if i get the job but thats not cheap about £80 for 2 days . i been looking at the henchman platforms they look great but alot of money to buy but think well worth it long term
  • Rob, I have a set of these and they've always been fine for me, although I would say mine look a little more substantial than the ones you link to, I would hazard a guess that mine would have been more like £150, but only a guess as a mate of mine gave them to me, he is in charge of stuff like that at his firm so he wrote them off as damaged and gave them to me, of course there was nothing wrong with them, wink, I dont do anything real high or on unlevel ground, so no probs for me.
  • £500 for that set :(

We've got a folding ladder, which we have used for almost 2o years, but it has splayed feet making it very stable and possible to use on uneven ground, wedging where necessary.

Currently I'm using it as a loft ladder, very versatile.
