Insurance alternatives to NFU and Simply Business

Hi

I am currently getting costings for a buiness plan to start up Garden Maintenance Buiness.

Apart from NFU and Simply Buiness are there any other insurance companies/brookers geared towards garden maintenance buinesses.

Thanks

I personally think you will struggle to beat what Simply Business can do for you. They actually understand what the real world is like - only my opinion of course

  • thanks

  • Anna,

Don't know about Simply Business but I do know from experience that the NFU pay out quickly and without fuss which can be vital when you need to keep your business going and somebodys stolen all your gear. It's not necessarily all about who's the cheapest.

    All best,

    Dave

  •

Try tradesman insure highly competitive quotes, have not had to claim so cannot comment on how good after sales service is.

If you are just starting out might be OK for you, my advice would be shop around this will give you an idea of what market rate will be.

Also try a local commercial broker for  my van insurance they came up with best deal.

  • i disagree , NFU- will try and wriggle out of it if they can .......... i Dont advise to use them AT ALL.

  • I think NFU depends on what office you use, I seem to have a good one at Tenterden, they paid out a claim quickly a few years back and have been fine since, their renewel this year however was a bit steep so I got a quote from Simply Business they were good online and called me back the next day to make sure what I wanted was at the best price so top marks there, I contacted NFU and they improved their offer so rather than jump I went with them again.

    Both seem good to me

  • i tried both nfu and simply business for insurance in the spring and both were far more than i am paying from

swintons brokers in town the insurance company is mma nearly a 1/3 of the cost of the others

  • The problem is comparing like for like.

Exemptions with Simply Business were Simply Crippling for me - problems with a number of items inc chainsaw use, trailer cover, max item cover...

Whoever you get a quote from make sure that you read the exemptions - You may be surprised what you're not covered for!

FTR I use NFU and have had no problems in 3yrs :)

  • I am very cynical when it comes to insurance companies. I don't trust any of them, they all are very quick to take your money but very slow to pay out when anything goes wrong.

I had my car written off in september last year by someone pulling out of a give way junction without looking and driving straight into the side of me. It was a clear cut case, the third party was obviosly at fault and admitted as such.

It took no less than 20 phone calls to get the courtesy car that they advertised would be an automatic process,

It took 4 months for them to pay out a third of the value of my car, the rest i had to claim back through solicitors from the third partys insurance which took another 2 months.

My no claims bonus was supposed to have been unnaffected because the accident wasn't my fault, when i asked them for proof for my new insurers for my new car they said it was zero. took 3 weeks to sort that out!!

The stress of it all probably took a couple of years off my life, So no, i don't have much faith in insurers, I just get the cheapest for my van, car and Public Liability. because they are all just interested in taking the money from you, they are just a nessasary evil.

I won't mention the name of the insurers who i was with because that would just be petty!   (1066)

    :-)

  • I too have had a few very bad dealings with insurance...but it was refreshing when my van was broken into and the mower and strimmer stolen in my first year..NFU paid up the claimed amount without dispute and within a few weeks...no phone calls no stress just completing on the contract we had in place ;-)

First time for me !!! not bad I'm only 44 so there is hope you will have a good experience before you die !
