If you personal or business bank with Barclays Bank, you will almost certainly be aware of their Online Service as well as the Mobile App (that also usefully mimics a PinSentry device) but have you seen the new, free service/feature called "Barclays Cloud It" ?

Description :

Secure cloud storage for your important documents

Barclays Cloud It has been designed to make your life easier.

Now you can do away with drawers full of paperwork and store your important documents safely and securely in your cloud.

To help, we’ll upload your Barclays documents – such as statements – to your cloud as well.

This means it’s simple to access your documents whenever you log in to Online or Mobile Banking – and set up alerts and reminders for key deadlines.

Barclays Cloud It offers:
Convenience – upload, sort and manage your important information
Security – your information is kept safely with us
Simplicity – tag your documents so they’re easy to find later
Flexibility – retrieve information whenever you need it
Reminders – set up alerts for key payments, renewals or dates
Peace of mind – no need to worry about lost documents.

Could be a useful means of uploading tax & Insurance documents, cover details, certificates, setting remiders etc which also then become available on your SmartDevice

  • A timely reminder about keeping a backup of data, I must admit I am overdue on my laptop. I spent many years as an IT tech telling woeful users that their files had gone forever when their hard disk had packed up.

Anyone wondering "what the hell is a cloud ?" Just think of it as a disk drive on the internet. If your computer/gadget goes pop or someone nicks off with it, then the files you put on the cloud are still available to you. Could save a lot of heartache and stress. If you're not with Barclays, there are quite a few others out there to consider.

< Just had a flashback of an unfortunate user who managed to reverse her car over her laptop bag. It wasn't pretty. It took my best poker face when she explained what happened :) >

It should be one of the first items on your business continuity plan

WHAT ? YOU NOT GOT ONE ! lol !

For Barlcay's business customers, there is an additional automated cloud backup service from i-Sure that gives you an desktop app to set up your backups, schedules and then executes the backup when required. Data Cebtre grade security, off site with instant call back/restore.

Up to 2Gb free, then a small amount per extra Gb.

Sensible use can ensure it always stays free.

Have to say, so few people take advantage of the little freebies given to them ...
All automated (ours runs at 2am) and has it been useful ;-)

We use dropbox for the sharing of important files. I think dropbox also backs itself up but I might be corrected. Office PC is backed up each night to a ReadyNAS in another location. I also use the readyNAS to back up my dropbiox files....

    Backups of backups!....

Think it's worth clarifying, the the Barcalys Cloud IT is not designed for total data backup, just useful documents that you want access to from multiple points (would imagine its good for things like holiday stuff - passports, insurances, tickets etc).

i-Sure (which Barclays and number of other organisations supplies) or similar products are the real backup kings that can work in the background and/or at schedule time.

One little feature I love is that it changes the file icon so you tell if a file has been backup'd or is awaiting backup. Sort of quick glance feature/peace of mind
